Apply for course accreditation

Course accreditation involves five key stages. When developing a course for accreditation, follow the process documented in these stages. If you have a query not covered in these process pages, please view our course accreditation FAQs and fact sheet.

Please note that course accreditation applications are subject to fees and charges.

If you are the owner of an existing course and would like to renew it, please visit our accredited course renewal page.

ASQA's approach to course accreditation

ASQA complies with the National Vocational Education and Training Regulator Act 2011 and the Standards for VET Regulators 2015 in carrying out its course accreditation functions.

A responsive and thorough assessment

ASQA thoroughly assesses applications for course accreditation for compliance with the Standards for VET Accredited Courses 2012 and the Australian Qualifications Framework.

We will only accredit a course if satisfied that:

  • there is a need for the course
  • the course outcomes do not duplicate any endorsed Training Package outcomes.

We commit to providing timely and responsive service and keep applicants informed throughout the accreditation process.

Clarity of role and independence

ASQA engages with course developers and course owners during the assessment process.

As an independent statutory authority, we cannot provide consultancy services. In addition, our role as a regulator means we cannot teach applicants how to follow the standards.

Transparency and continuous improvement

ASQA commits to transparency in its accreditation processes and activities.

We monitor the effectiveness, efficiency, and consistency of the course accreditation processes through:

  • annual accreditation surveys
  • client feedback
  • internal continuous improvement processes.

Information gathered through these monitoring activities informs our strategies for improvement.
